Hamrick Goes to the Diamondbacks

June 10 - The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Brewton-Parker ace Randy Hamrick in the 19th round of the 2009 First-Year Players Draft.  Hamrick was the Barons ace all season, and led the team with a 2.80 ERA, and led the conference with 99 strikeouts in the regular season.

When asked about being drafted by the Diamondbacks, Randy said, "I'm ecstatic.  I can't believe it.  I've been waiting for this my whole life.  My Dad was there to give me a big hug, which is kind of a big deal because he used to play minor league [baseball] for the Dodgers.  Of course I called Coach Mullins right afterwards because I wouldn't be here without all of his support."

Randy will be reporting to Arizona shortly, where he will be given his league assignment.  Check back shortly for more details, and to follow Randy's progress.

Conference Tournament a Success for the Barons

It would have taken more than one or two breaks for the Barons to break through and win the Conference Tournament this year, but the Barons were able to hold their heads high after a terrific showing at this years tournament held Apr. 29-May 3 at Golden Park in Columbus, GA.

In the opening round, the No. 8 seeded Barons beat the regular season champions, and No.1 seeded Berry Vikings, in what was undoubtedly the upset of the tournament.  Randy Hamrick pitched a gem for the Barons in the upset, throwing a complete game 4 hitter and only allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, as the the Barons upended the Vikings 5-2.

In the second round, the Barons ran into a tough Auburn University-Montgomery team and fell 11-4 to drop into the losers bracket.

Out of pitching, but not quite ready to go home, the Barons fought hard against Lee, but just didn't have enough, and fell 23-15 in what ended up being the highest scoring game of the tournament.

Brewton-Parker went home with there heads held high, as Randy Hamrick was named a Second Team All-Conference Pitcher, Eric Shepherd was named to the Champion of Character Team, and the team claimed their first postseason victory in nearly a decade.
