Anchor Bible Dictionary -- REF BS 440.A54 1992

Six volume dictionary for critical Bible study. Contains entries covering the Dead Sea Scrolls, Nag Hammadi texts and other related writings.

Illustrated Bible Dictionary -- REF BS 440.I559 1980

Shorter entries than the Anchor Bible Dictionary, but many include maps, photographs and diagrams. Brief bibliographies are provided at the end of entries for further study.

New Encyclopedia of Archaeological Excavations in the Holy Land -- REF DS 111.A2 N488 1993

Geographic area covered uses the traditional boundaries of the Holy Land. Entries include an identification of the site, and the excavations completed or in process and the results of these excavations. Several photos, diagrams and maps are provided.

Several commentaries are available in the reference section of the library. More, such as Matthew Henry's Commentary, are located in the circulating collection beginning with BS 480. Also, some commentaries are included in the area of the circulating collection that is grouped by books of the Bible, beginning with BS 1205. The NIV Application Commentaries fall under this category.

Religion and Philosophy Collection -- Access to over 300 full text journals on religion and philosophy. Topics include world religions, major denominations, Biblical studies, religious history, epistemology, political philosophy, philosophy of language, moral philosophy and the history of philosophy.

Wilson Humanities Full Text -- Full text for scholarly and specialized journals and magazines. Includes articles; interviews; obituaries; bibliographies; book reviews; original works of fiction, drama and poetry; and reviews of ballets, dance programs, motion pictures, musicals, operas, plays, and radio and TV programs.

BibleGateway.com -- Users can search for Bible passages in 25 English translations and several more in other languages. Searches can also be done by keyword and phrase. Topical Bibles, audio Bibles, commentaries, reading plans, and devotions are also available.

Christian Classics Ethereal Library -- Based at Calvin College, this website provides access to hundreds of full text classic Christian works.

New Testament Gateway -- Annotated collection of links to academic internet resources pertaining to the New Testament. Includes sections on the Greek New Testament, the Synoptic Problem and Q, bibliographies, and resources related to Women and Gender.

 

Other Websites

Barna Group -- Barna Group is a research organization focused on spirituality and culture. While the website contains sources for purchase, articles on data the Group has collected are available. Clicking on the Topics toolbar leads to these sources by category.

Cooperative Digital Resources Initiative of the American Theological Library Association and Association of Theological Schools -- Contains digital images contributed by a number of ATLA institutions. Some types of sources include manuscripts, photographs, sermons, and architecture. Most materials are based on Christianity, but some refer to other world religions.

Early Christian Writings -- Over 150 Christian writings, or writings of interest to Christians, from the first, second, and early third centuries. Includes books of the New Testament, the Apocrypha, Gnostic writings, writings by Church Fathers and more.

Institute for Studies of Religion/Baylor University -- Provides access to the peer-reviewed Interdisicplinary Journal of Research on Religion and ISR Reports. Explains research initiatives of the institute.
