Brewton-Parker's Home School Advisory Board

Because students schooled outside an institutional setting are unique in some ways, the College has established an advisory board to consider issues distinct to that population.

Goal of the Advisory Board

The goal of the board is 3-fold:

1. To help develop a clear set of admission standards that would assist the admissions director in assessing a student's readiness for college and to ensure the standards are attainable and fair to all.

2. To consider adjustment issues specific to this student group and suggest ways of helping them orient and adjust to college life including separation from family, increased self-reliance, and decreased direct supervision of learning.

3. To advise the College on ways to inform home school students, parents, and support groups information about Brewton-Parker and what we have to offer.

Members of the Advisory Board

The Home School Advisory Board will consist of 4 Brewton-Parker members and 5 at-large members who have a perspective on home schooling from the practitioner point of view.

Marla Beebe, Assistant Librarian

Sara Crowe, Registrar

Fourth member to be announced.

The at-large members will serve 1 year terms and may serve up to 3 consecutive years.  At all times, at least 3 of them will be home schooling parents.

Jean Yoder, home school mom from Jesup

Janet Stoops, home school mom from Oglethorpe

Marcia Braswell, home school mom from Warner-Robins

Miranda Baird, home school mom from Vidalia
