An academic scholarship opportunity for high achievers

Brewton-Parker offers 6 scholarships to academically-qualified freshmen enrolling in Fall Semester, 2012.  The amount of the Scholarship is $2000 per year.  This scholarship will be in addition to any federal and state money the student may be eligible to receive or any other Brewton-Parker scholarships he/she may be offered.

The scholarships will be renewable annually for 4 years as long as recipients remain fully enrolled at the College and maintain a 3.0 GPA. 

Recipients will be chosen through a selection process, and the deadline dates shown below are critical.

Minimum Criteria for Consideration

To be eligible to participate, a student must have a 3.25 GPA on their high school transcript AND one of the two following exam scores:

• SAT scores - the total for critical reading and math together must be at least 1100 with neither below 500.
• ACT scores - the total for English and math together must be at least 48 with English at least 20 and math 19 or higher.

SAT or ACT score reports may be received directly from the examining board or posted on the high school transcript by the school. If you have already had your scores sent to us, you do not need to provide them again.  If you need to send the scores, the SAT school code is 5068 and the ACT school code is 0801.

High school transcripts must be posted directly from the high school to the address below. 

Application Process

1.  Submit the application and all required documents no later than March 9 .  (see link below)

2.  Required documents:

• Official high school transcript
• SAT or ACT scores
• Three letters of recommendation* which must be from your high school English teacher, your high school guidance counselor, and a character reference from a local community member of your choice.

*PLEASE impress on your references the urgency of getting the letters to us   promptly.  Failure to do so may eliminate you from the competition.

Students who are home schooled must present three references as well, but as they have no English teacher or guidance counselor other than parents, may select two others to write the letters.  Select carefully.  Ideally, they would be able to attest to your academic ability and performance as well as your character.

No exceptions will be made to the Friday, March 9, deadline . 

Your file must be completed by that date.

Sometime in the following week, all students will be notified whether they are eligible to continue the process.

Selection Process

On March 23, applicants will come to campus for an all-day competition which includes writing an essay and an oral interview by the Academic Selection Committee.  The Committee will make written evaluations to be included in the applicant's portfolio. 

The Committee will meet to review each completed portfolio and will place applicants on a list in ranked order.  Six winners will be selected to receive the Pillars of Excellence scholarship.  All studnets will be notified of the outcome.  

Interviewees not selected in the top 6 will be on a waiting list in order of their rankings.  Should a winner decline the scholarship, alternates will be chosen from the waiting list until all 6 scholarships have been awarded and accepted.
