Planning a Visit
Did You Say Prepare for a Campus Visit?
Absolutely! Visiting the campuses of those colleges in which
you are considering is one of the most important steps you
can take when deciding on which college to attend. Choosing
the right college is a big investment - you want to invest
your money, your time, and your talents wisely. Take a few
minutes to look over these tips that may help make your
campus visit more successful.
- Meet
with an Admissions Counselor.
- Ask
about admission requirements (GPA, test scores, high school
preparation) and deadlines.
- Discuss
your chances for success.
- Obtain
a school calendar and catalog if you don't already have
them.
- Ask
about college costs - be sure to ask about the overall
costs like tuition, room, board, and fees.
- Ask
about financial aid and scholarship opportunities, as
well as deadlines, forms required, etc.
- Meet
with a professor in the academic area of interest to you.
- Ask
questions about academic requirements and offerings.
- Attend
a class to get an idea of typical size, teaching style,
and academic atmosphere.
- Identify
career-planning services for undergraduates.
- Tour
the campus (be sure you check out the residence halls,
dining hall, library, student centers, etc).
- Talk
to students about the general academic environment and
the study commitment necessary for success.
- Find
out what student activities (clubs, organizations, intramurals,
etc.) are available.
- Inquire
about campus life and social activities.
- Investigate
transportation options.
- Visit
chapel if it is a part of the campus opportunity (ask
how often they have chapel, what attendance requirements
are, etc.).
- Ask
about the spiritual environment on campus if you are visiting
a Christian university.
- Ask
about the leadership opportunities that are available
to you.
- Ask
about the dress code and other lifestyle standards.
- Ask
if freshmen students can bring a car to campus and about
parking.
