National Alumni Board
Article I: By-Laws
The By-Laws of the National Alumni Board may be amended by a majority vote of members of the National Alumni Board present at any meeting called by the President.
Article II: National Alumni Board
The management of the special business of the Brewton-Parker College National Alumni Society shall be under the control of the National Alumni Board. Any member who is absent from more than three consecutive meetings without reason suitable to the Board shall be deemed to have resigned.
Section i. There shall be at least seven at large members, one from the current decade and one from the previous six decades. There may be as many additional members as determined to be effective.
Section ii. Members of the National Alumni Board shall be appointed by the Board by a majority of the members present at its annual meeting.
Article III: Officers and Their Duties
Section i. There shall be a President, Vice President, a recording Secretary and a Treasurer who will serve as officers of the National Alumni Board.
Section ii. Duties
The Society President shall preside at all National Alumni Board and Society meetings.
The President of the Society, Vice President of College Advancement and the Director of Alumni Relations will develop an annual calendar of activities and events that promote each of the goals of the society and distribute copies of the calendar to Society members.
The President shall appoint or reappoint chairpersons and members of standing committees to promote each of the goals of the society.
Alumni Awards Committee will recommend the selection criteria and a list of nominees for all awards given by the Society to the National Alumni Board for approval.
Athletic Hall of Fame Committee will recommend the selection criteria and a list of nominees for all awards given by the Society to the National Alumni Board for approval.
Fellowship Committee will promote activities that allow for Christian fellowship among alumni at the Georgia Baptist Convention and on Alumni Weekend. Their duties will include the planning, carrying out and evaluating of these events.
Fundraising Committee will promote fundraising activities as established by the President of Brewton-Parker College and directed by the Vice President for College Advancement.
**Please note: the other committees stipulated in the 1994 version of the By-Laws have been put on inactive status by vote of the membership.**
The President of the Society and the Director of Alumni will plan an agenda for each Board meeting.
The President will prepare an annual report to the National Alumni Board on the progress of the Society.
The Vice President will coordinate all standing committees and special committees as appointed by the President.
The Vice President shall assume the duties of the President in his/her absence at all meetings.
In the event that the office of President becomes vacant, the Vice President shall succeed the President and serve the duration of the term.
The Secretary will be assisted by the Director of Alumni in recording all Society and Board meetings and submit the minutes to the Board by mail within two weeks of each meeting.
The treasurer will give all financial reports to the National Alumni Board of their fundraising projects.
Past Board of Presidents will be a member of the Board for life.
The Brewton- Parker College President, Vice President for College Advancement and the Director of Alumni Relations will be ex-officio members of the Board.
Article IV: Awards
Section i. Awards given by the National Alumni Society shall include Alumni of the Year.
Section ii. Friend Awards shall include a Friend of the Year. All Friend Awards shall be for life and will entitle them to all rights and privileges of alumni.
Section iii. Athletic Hall of Fame Awards will be awarded each year during Alumni Weekend. There will be no more than five nominees for the Athletic Hall of Fame each year.
Section iv. The Young Alumni Awards will be awarded on Alumni Weekend Homecoming Day each year. Young Alumni Awards will come from alumni who have graduated up to 20 years out
of BPC in the class year 1957 and thereafter.
Section vi. The criteria for all awards of the Society will be determined by the National Alumni Board and used in the selection of the recipients by the Awards Committee.
Section vii. The Half-Century Club Alumni of the Year award will be awarded each year during Alumni Weekend.
Section viii. The Ministerial Alumni of the Year award will be awarded each year during Alumni Weekend.
Section ix. All award nominations shall be kept in a 5-year cycle term for awarding.
Article V: Publications
The Society's publication will be called The Lamp and will be published as funds are available by the College and under the direction of the Vice President for College Advancement. The Lamp will include the affairs and events of the Society.
Article VI: Chapters and Clubs
The National Alumni Board will approve By-Laws for chapters and clubs and all amendments.
Article VII: Elections
Section i. The term of the office for President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer will be two years.
Section ii. The term of office will be from the first meeting of the National Alumni Board following Alumni Weekend.
Section iii. The President of the National Alumni Board will appoint a nominating committee that will recommend a slate of officers that will be voted on at the National Alumni Board meeting prior to the annual Alumni Weekend.
Section iv. The National Alumni Board will consist of at least twenty-four members. Nominations to the National Alumni Board may come from any member of the Board. The term of office for the National Alumni Board will be three years. The member may be reappointed with their consent and evidence of positive support of National Alumni Board activities.
