The Bachelor Of Fine Arts Degree:
Creative
Writing
BPC's outstanding undergraduate BFA in Creative Writing consists
of common core requirements, Major requirements, and Creative Expressions and General electives. It is a comprehensive degree in the art of creative writing, emphasizing traditional rhetoric, philosophy, and aesthetics. Writing courses familiarize students with a variety of traditional and contemporary genres, and invite each student to seek and find his or her own voice. The discipline of structured writings and intensive revisions blend with workshop-style discussions which sharpen the editorial skills of writers of fiction, poetry, film scripts, and creative non-fiction. Graduating students complete a capstone project of publisheable work which prepares them for work in the marketplace or for further studies in graduate school.
Students who chose to pursue their Major in English with a minor in creative writing complete the same requqirements as those in the regular English Major except that they must choose four creative writing courses as the focus of thier study. All of these courses may count as electives toward the English Major.
CREATIVE WRITING SCHOLARSHIPS
BPC academic scholarships of various amounts are available to creative writing students. Each applicant can work with financial aid and any member of the English/Creative Writing faculty to help implement these opportunities.
BPC also supports and belongs to the Alliance For Young Artists And Writers. Every year, the Alliance sponsors The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Please refer to the website for details. http://www.artandwriting.org/enter.htm
