Appreciation Day / Language Appreciation Day Overview
Overview
Language Appreciation Day (LAD) is an annual event hosted
by the Modern Language Department of Brewton-Parker
College (BPC). LAD was founded to draw attention to the importance of foreign languages in modern society and to facilitate the teaching of high school foreign languages in SE Georgia (See "For Teachers and Principals " link ). While the focus to date continues to be on Spanish, other languages are anticipated in the future. During LAD07, held Friday, March 23, some 305 Spanish students from six SE Georgia high schools competed in twenty-one events, ranging from spelling, to translation to the subjuntive. Spanish students from Claxton HS won the coveted Bryan Rampey first-place trophy, while students from Montgomery County HS (The previous first-place winner) came in second and students from Tattnall County HS came in third. LAD08 is scheduled for Friday, March 28, 2008. Principals or teachers interested in participating in LAD08 should view our "For Teachers and Principals " link, and contact Professor James Bell at
800-342-1087, x-163; 912-583-3163 or jbell@bpc.edu.
