Appreciation Day / Language Appreciation Day Overview
Overview
Language Appreciation Day (LAD) is an annual event hosted
since 2005 by the Modern Language Department of Brewton-Parker
College. LAD was founded to draw attention to the importance of foreign languages in modern society and to facilitate the teaching of high school foreign languages in SE Georgia (See "For Teachers and Principals " link ). While the focus to date has been and continues to be on Spanish, other languages are anticipated in the future. During LAD09, held Friday, March 27, some 125 Spanish students from five SE Georgia high schools competed in fourteen events, ranging from Spanish Cognates to Spanish Spelling. Spanish students from Claxtonl HS won the coveted Bryan Rampey first-place trophy, while students from Tattnall County HS came in second and students from Metter HS came in third. LAD10 is set for Friday, March 26, 2010. Principals or teachers interested in participating in LAD10 should view our "For Teachers and Principals " link, and contact Professor James Bell at
800-342-1087, x-163; 912-583-3163 or jbell@bpc.edu.
