Basketball Rankings

MT VERNON, GA-- Both Brewton-Parker College's basketball teams are ranked in this week's NAIA national poll.
The Dec. 11 poll has the Barons at No. 23 and the Lady Barons at No. 19.
Barons coach Steve Barker has guided his team through tough pre-conference battles and built a record of 8-2.
"We have had a successful fall," said Barker, "which is directly related to the work ethic of the kids. They have stayed focused."
The pre-conference schedule is aimed at preparing the team for an extremely tough conference schedule.
"We're going to come back from the holiday break and face some tough competitors," Barker said. "I feel the level of competition in the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference is among the best in the country, especially when we have to deal with Faulkner, the defending national champions, Faulkner, and Southern Tech, a national championship finalist."
Brewton-Parker's women moved up this week from No. 23 to No. 19.
They have built a pre-conference record of 11-2.
"It's great to be No. 19," said Lady Barons coach Tommy Dalley, "especially before the Christmas break. Last year's team didn't break into the national rankings until after the start of the conference season."
He is excited about the post-holiday opportunities when the Lady Barons face GACC competition.
"I think we can get better," he said. "I am hoping that our national ranking will continue to climb."
