Basketball

Both Brewton-Parker College's basketball teams are battling through tough conference competition.
Coach Steve Barker and his team of Barons are battling through a tough Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference schedule and have built a record of 14-9 (5-6).
This past week the team battled college teams from Georgia Southwestern, Shorter and Southern Polytechnic.
The Barons battled Georgia Southwestern to a 70-70 tie at the end of regulation, and then won 80-79 spurred by efforts posted by Derrick Green.
Green, a senior guard from Macon, Ga., scored all 10 of the Barons points in overtime.
Brewton-Parker's men then traveled to Rome, Ga., to face Shorter College in a game ruled by defense. Green led the Barons scoring attack with 11 points as they came away with a 45-42 victory. 
The week ended with the Barons clashing with last year's Georgia-Alabama-Carolina conference champions on their home court in Marietta, Ga.
Southern Tech's Runnin' Hornets outdueled the Barons to win 94-54.
This week the Barons face GACC competitors in Parker Gymnasium, with Saturday's 2 p.m. homecoming clash pitting Brewton-Parker against the Faulkner Eagles.
Lady Barons coach Tommy Dalley and his team have a record of 15-8 (3-5) and are working toward setting history.
At no time in Brewton-Parker history has a women's basketball team ever posted back-to-back 20 win seasons.
With 11 remaining season and tournament games, the team knows what has to be done in order to reach its goal.
During the past week the team hosted Georgia Southwestern and traveled to Shorter.
The Lady Barons beat Georgia Southwestern 60-49 and lost to Shorter by a score of 55-67.
Toya Rogers and Starla Mahaffey led the scoring attack against Georgia Southwestern that provided a birthday win for point guard Trudie Ridley, a sophomore from Richmond Hill, Ga.
Rogers, a sophomore guard from Vidalia, Ga., scored 16, and Mahaffey, a senior forward from Lawrenceville, Ga., had 10.
Both Brewton-Parker College teams host rival Auburn University at Montgomery this Thursday in Parker Gymnasium. Tip-off for the Lady Barons is at 6 p.m. and the Barons game opens at 8 p.m.

BARON BASKETBALL

Tough games against conference competitors fills the Brewton-Parker College men's basketball schedule.
Barons coach Steve Barker and his team have a record of 15-11 (6-8) and battling familiar rivals.
During the past week the Barons fought Southern Wesleyan, Auburn University at Montgomery, and Faulkner University.
The week opened Feb. 4 with action against Southern Wesleyan. The Barons coasted to an easy 93-60 victory.
Barons offensive attack was led by Derrick Green, Bryan Jett and Akin Joseph.
Green, a senior guard from Macon, Ga., scored 21; Jett, a freshman post from Hampton, Ga., added 15; and Joseph, a sophomore guard from St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, made 10. 
The Barons hosted Auburn University at Montgomery on Feb. 7 and ended up losing 59-71.
Derrick Green and Jarvis Smith led the Barons scoring.
Green scored 14; and Smith, a sophomore guard from Atlanta, Ga., made 11.
The week closed with the Feb. 9 homecoming tilt against last year's NAIA national champions.
Brewton-Parker pulled out to a 33-32 halftime lead, but Faulkner charged back in the second half and claimed a 73-60 victory.
Baron scoring was led by Alister Wilson and Maxi Rios.
Wilson, a senior post from Wurtulla, Australia, had 15; and Rios, a freshman guard from San Nicolas, Argentina, made 11.
The Barons this week travel to face Reinhardt and North Georgia colleges and close the home season on Feb. 18 with an 8 p.m. tipoff against Emmanuel College.

LADY BARONS BASKETBALL

Clashes with familiar rivals resulted in Brewton-Parker College's Lady Barons earning important conference victories. 
The Lady Barons last week beat Southern Wesleyan and Auburn University at Montgomery in battles fought at Parker Gymnasium.
Coach Tommy Dalley has guided the Lady Barons to a record of 17-8 (5-5) and is hoping their recent performances can guide a surge that will return the team to the national tournament.
The Lady Barons defeated Southern Wesleyan's Lady Warriors on Feb. 4 by a score of 80-39.
Joy Smith, Tameka Oliver and Lucinda Lessington led the Lady Barons scoring attack.
Smith, a senior forward from Wrens, Ga., had 17; Oliver, a junior forward from Savannah, Ga., added 13; and, Lessington, a junior guard from Sylvania, Ga., scored 10.
The Lady Barons on Feb. 7 fought rival AUM into overtime before claiming a 54-49 victory.
For the second time in as many years, the Lady Barons have defeated AUM in Parker Gymnasium.
Tameka Oliver, Takara Solomon and Melody Walker led the Lady Barons scoring in the battle against the Lady Senators.
Oliver led the scoring with 14 points and also had 10 rebounds; Solomon, a junior guard from Eustis, Fla., added 10 points; and Walker, a sophomore guard from Statesboro, Ga., added 8 points, which included nailing two last second free throws that secured AUM's defeat.
The Lady Barons this week travel to face Reinhardt and North Georgia college's as the team prepares for the upcoming GAC conference tournament.
