SOFTBALL

Fastpitch softball season opened with a pair of Brewton-Parker College victories.

And Jill Poole's team is looking forward to returning for bouts and the home field advantage.

After opening the season with a pair of victories over Edward Waters, the team lost road battles to Savannah College of Art and Design and Thomas University.

The Lady Barons defeated Edward Waters by scores of 11-3 and 10-1 on the season's opening day.

A 9-run fourth inning propelled the team to its season opening victory.

Debbie Sigfusson, a freshman pitcher from Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, earned the pitching mound victory.

The Lady Barons used offensive momentum from the first game and opened the first inning of the second game by scoring five runs.

Kelly Hamilton, a sophomore pitcher from Fergus, Ontario, Canada, earned her first win of the season.

The Lady Barons lost 1-6 and 8-9 to SCAD and then 1-3 and 0-10 in weekend action against Thomas Univeristy.

Brewton-Parker's team is 2-4 on the season and hosts Thomas University for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 2.
