Signing

Brewton-Parker College's Lady Barons are stocking local talent in preparation for next year's basketball season.
Montgomery County High School's Tamika Drinks inked a scholarship agreement and will next year attend Brewton-Parker.
Drinks was a standout for the Montgomery County High School Lady Eagle team that recently finished a season of competition that led to action in the state tournament.
The Lady Barons finished their season at the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference tournament, setting a school record by completing their second consecutive season with 20 wins. Brewton-Parker's women completed the 2001-2002 campaign with a record of 20-11.
"We are excited about signing Tamika," Dalley said. "She is going to be a tremendous player for us."
"She has an ability to score inside," he said, "as well as outside the 3-point line."
The guard will come into a lineup of seasoned talent that will be working toward returning to the national championship tournament.
"We are extremely proud when we are able to recruit local talent," said Dalley. "By signing Tamika, her home community is going to be able to see her play for the next four years."

Montgomery County High School basketball standout Tamika Drinks, center, recently signed a letter of intent to begin play next year as a member of Brewton-Parker College's Lady Barons. Basketball

Action at the GACC tournament brought Brewton-Parker College basketball seasons to a close.
Both teams traveled to Dahlonega, Ga., for the season concluding Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference tournament.
The Barons were seeded No. 5 and opened their tournament action against No. 4 Georgia Southwestern.
Until the game's final seconds, it looked like Brewton-Parker would claim a win.
But fate struck.
In the game's final minutes a turn of events led to Georgia Southwestern claiming a 73-72 victory.
Coach Steve Barker still can't believe the events that unfolded.
Georgia Southwestern scored a basket to reduce the Baron lead to 72-69, but Brewton-Parker was forced to call a timeout when Georgia Southwestern's pressing defense had all the offensive players covered.
Coach Barker put in an offensive set utilizing five guards to inbound the ball. A pass was thrown to Derrick Green who was streaking down the court, but the only way Josh Stuart could get the ball to him was to throw it along the sidelines.
As Green grabbed the ball, his foot grazed the court boundary.
Georgia Southwestern would get possession.
With the change of possession, Coach Barker sent two of his posts back into the game. With players thinking of a different set, three guards headed to the bench.
A refree handed the ball to a Georgia Southwestern offensive player about the time players realized that only four Barons were on the court. Two guards jumped toward the floor, which resulted in a team technical foul.
Georgia Southwestern made the two technical shots, to make the score 72-71, and then retained possession of the ball.
In the game's final seconds, Georgia Southwestern moved the ball for an easy field goal and claimed the victory to knock Brewton-Parker out of the tournament.
The Barons ended its season with a record of 17-14 (8-10).
Faulkner University ended up claiming the GACC championship by defeating Auburn University-Montgomery 63-61.
On the women's side, Brewton-Parker College claimed an opening round victory to set a school record.
A 59-58 victory over Emmanuel gave the Lady Barons its 20th season win, making it the first time the women's team has had back-to-back 20 win seasons.
After defeating Emmanuel, the Lady Barons faced the Lady Saints of No. 1 seed North Georgia.
Coach Tommy Dalley said that injuries were a factor in the 67-53 loss.
The team ended its season with a record of 20-11 (7-7).
North Georgia claimed the GACC championship with a 64-57 win over Auburn University-Montgomery.

BARONS BASEBALL

Spring break meant a string of games for members of Brewton-Parker College's baseball team.
Games with the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference have opened, with the Barons young players this past weekend battling through a series with North Georgia College and State University.
The Barons traveled to Dahlonega, Ga., to battle the powerful Saints.
North Georgia is the conference's defending regular season champions and is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation.
North Georgia's Saints won the first two series games by scores of 11-8 and 3-2, with the Barons claiming the final match 10-4.
The weekend's action put the Barons record at 8-16 (2-3).
"We are learning from our mistakes and are getting better," said Barons coach Chad Parker. "If we do that, we will have a chance to be successful late in the season and make a playoff run."
The Barons this week host Tennessee Wesleyan for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 13. Southern Wesleyan comes to town this weekend for a three-game conference series. The series opening pitch will be thrown out at 6 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 15, and doubleheader action will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
