2007 Season Preview
Under the direction of first year head coach, Hayne Brant, the Brewton Parker College baseball team is excited about the upcoming 2007 baseball season. This year’s edition of the Baron Baseball team will feature an outstanding defensive line-up, as well as, a powerful and potentially deep offensive attack. The Barons pitching staff is packed full of talent led by two senior starters from last seasons team. Another feature of the Barons is an outstanding freshman class that could make an immediate impact.
Coach Brant has set high expectations for the 2007 baseball season. The Barons are returning five of eight starters in the field and seven of nine pitchers from last year’s team. “We have the potential to be a very good team this year.” says Coach Brant. “We are very deep on the mound and in the field.” The infusion of some quality transfers and a good freshman class, along with a solid veteran core gives the Barons optimism for the 2007 season.
The coaching staff is encouraged with the type of physical talent and teachable attitudes demonstrated by both returning players and new recruits. “These positive character traits help provide a solid foundation from which to build upon.” Brant says.
Coach Brant along with pitching coach, Andrew Gernatt, are looking for great leadership out of the seniors this season. Judging by the attitudes of these players nothing is going to stand in their way of a record breaking season. “It refreshing to work with this team” says Brant. Coming off a disappointing 29-22 season last year the Brewton Parker Barons have set high goals for the 2007 season.
