BREWTON-PARKER SIGN’S TIM JICKELL

Mount Vernon, GA – Brewton-Parker College men’s basketball coach John D. Jones announces the signing of Tim Jickell to a basketball scholarship.   Jickell is the fourth player to commit to the Barons this spring, and the second from Florida.  He chose Brewton-Parker after considering options at UCF, Eckard, and Stetson.

Playing his high school basketball at Bishop Moore Catholic School in Orlando, Jickell used his 6'8"/230 lb. frame to anchor the center position for Coach Joe Hayes’ team.  He was a consistent double-double threat, averaging 10 points and 11 rebounds to go along with 5 blocks per game.  He was selected as a “Player to Watch” by FAAZ Magazine, and played AAU basketball for nationally known shooting coach Charles Richardson.  Richardson, who also works with Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, recommended Tim to the Barons.

“Tim is a quality big man who can run the floor very well and finish at the basket.  He has a great frame on him and uses it well to defend in the post,” said Barons head coach John D. Jones. “He is a young man of integrity who possesses an outstanding work ethic.  Tim has the potential to come in and compete right away and he will represent our program with class.”

Jickell possesses outstanding academic credentials as well.  He was a 4.0 student in high school and has the potential to be an academic All-American in college.  Tim plans to major in Political Science and hopes to practice law one day.  “I was impressed with the academic reputation of BPC and the political Science department’s outstanding track record of placing graduates into law school,” said Jickell.  “I felt very comfortable with Coach Jones and I wanted to be a part of his vision for Brewton-Parker Basketball.”

Founded in 1904 by the Georgia Baptist Convention, Brewton-Parker College is the only institution of Christian higher education located in southeast Georgia.  BPC, which has a total enrollment of 1,100 students in over 30 degree programs; competes athletically in the NAIA Division I and is a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC).
