COREY ROTH SIGN’S WITH

BREWTON-PARKER BASKETBALL

Corey Roth 1

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. -- On the heels of a memorable second-half turnaround to notch a SSAC tournament birth in his first season, Brewton-Parker College head men’s basketball coach John D. Jones has announced the signing of junior college transfer Corey Roth out of St. John’s River Community College (FL) to a Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Barons next season.

Roth, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward, averaged 8 points and 4 rebounds during his freshman campaign for Coach Buster Harvey.  He showed accuracy from the outside, shooting 49.1 percent from the 3-point stripe during his only season at the Palatka, FL school.  Highlights included a 28 point performance in a win at Daytona Community College; 19 points in a home loss against Polk Community College; and 18 points on the road against eventual conference champion Santa Fe Community College.

“Corey is a highly skilled forward who possesses an exceptionally high basketball IQ,” Jones said. “He can score in a variety of ways, and has a knack for connecting on big shots.  Not only is he a talented basketball player, but he also has a tremendous attitude and work ethic.”

At Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville, FL he led coach Rocky Cusack‘s Saints to a #1 ranking during his senior campaign, averaging 18 points per game.  He was the fourth leading scorer in the city, with high games of 37 points vs. Saint Augustine High School, and 28 points vs. Buchholz High School.  Roth earned the team’s MVP award, was named the 6-A Player of the Year in Jacksonville, and made the 6-A Honorable Mention All-State team in 2007.  He was also selected as a starter in the Florida North-South all-star contest.

Raised in Van Wert, OH until the 5th grade, Roth comes from a strong hardwood heritage - his father, Keith Roth, was an all-region point guard in Ohio after averaging 10 points and 6 assists during his stellar prep career.

“Corey will make an immediate impact in the SSAC because of the unique skill set he possesses for a player of his size,” Jones said. “He’s an outstanding ball handler and passer, and knows how to use screens effectively to get himself open. As his game continues to improve, he will add the new dimension that we need as we continue to build our program. He’ll be a great asset to the institution and our fans will love to watch him play.”
