Barons look to make a run in 2007-08!
Steve Barker begins his 18th season as the Brewton-Parker College men's basketball coach with a lot of optimism.
Barker looks to a group of seniors, along with several newcomers, to make a run at the tough Southern States Athletic Conference championship.
Barker is extremely excited about the return of George Fudge and Jurbien Byrd.
George Fudge is the top returning player from last season at the post position. The 6-5 Fudge, a native of Atlanta, Georgia averaged 9.2 points along with 4.6 rebounds per game.
Barker also included Jurbien Byrd, a returning 6-1 junior guard from Calhoun, GA, in his fold for good guard play. Byrd seeks to improve on his junior year averages of 11.2 points and 3.6 assits per game.
"We are expecting big things from both of these guys," Barker said. “Both have extensive experience and I look for them to account for much of our inside and outside scoring this year.”
Bradley Wilson, a 6-5 senior guard from Vidalia, Georgia returns at the big guard position. Wilson has averaged 5.8 points per game for his career at BPC.
Jason Moore, a 6-1 senior swing guard from Southfield, Michigan brings added experience add the point/wing position.
Michael Johnson, a 6-1 guard returns as Barker's best on the ball defender.
Barker has added an exciting new group of Barons to the roster for the 2007-08 basketball season.
Transfer post Maurice Veal of Milledgeville, Georgia will add depth at the post position. Veal is 6-9 and very athletic. Maurice has the ability to score around the basket and be a big rebounder for the Barons.
Gavin Chapman, a 6'2 shooting guard from Athens, GA brings added depth at the guard position. Chapman can shoot it from deep and Barker expects big things from Gavin this season.
Nate Greene, a 6'1 shooting guard from Americus, GA is the most consistant guard signees for the Barons this season. Nate is a hard worker and sets the example for players in the classroom as well as in the weight room.
Charlie Piho, a 6'5 swing guard comes to the Barons from New Zealand and will add much experience to the guard and post positions. Charlie can score inside and out and will be a big asset to Brewton-Parker College in the years to come.
Ryan Moore, a 5-9 point guard from LaGrange, GA plays the point position. Moore has a strong big guard body and has the ability to score from that position.
Cliff Miller, a 5-9 point guard from Douglasville, GA plays the point position. Miller will gain valuable experience this season. Cliff has the ability to apply great ball pressure on the opponents point guard.
Chris Jordan, a 6-5 post from Jacksonville, FL brings added depth to the post position. Chris has great footwork and has the ability to score inside and also from the perimeter.
Brandon Skinner, a 6'6 post from Augusta, GA can score inside and out and will get better and better with experience. Skinner has knowledge of the game and will have a great career here at BPC.
Transfer guard Dominique Clinch, a 6'0 guard will bring addded depth at the guard position. He is a good defender and can help the Barons in their tough man to man defense.
Eddie Dixon, a 6-0 guard from Twin City, GA will give Barker another swing guard in his arsenal. Eddie can get to the basket and can apply great on the ball pressure. When Dixon gets eligible in January the Baron guards will gain much respect.
Justin Hunt and Dustin Jeffords both guards from Augusta, GA and Valdosta, GA will reshirt this season due to fall semester injuries.
The Barons are excited about the 2007-08 season and look to be a contender in March.
