Barons sign seven new men’s soccer players

Seven is a lucky number and that bodes well for the Brewton-Parker College men’s soccer team as the Barons count seven signees at this stage of the recruiting process.

“This is a bumper crop” according to Coach Glass, “and I am not referring to the quantity of new players, but the quality.”

For example Michael Burgess (Callahan, FL) was named captain of the West Nassau High School soccer team his senor year when he scored five goals and notched 11 assists as a midfielder.  Alex Campbell (St. Mary’s) scored 23 goals for Camden County High School and assisted on roughly 50 other goals during his high school soccer career.  Nate Okogie (Snellville) scored 35 goals and registered 16 assists in three years of varsity soccer at Shiloh High School.  He was named to the All Gwinnett County Team this year.  Maxi Pereyra (Atlanta) was the team captain for the Mount Zion High School soccer team both his junior and senior year and won the 2006 MVP award and the 2007 Star Player award.  Nick Thrower (Cairo) was a four year varsity starter at Cairo High School and was named First Team All Region both his Junior and Senior years.  He was also the team captain in both his junior and senior years.   Ryan Wallace (McDonough) was captain and the MVP of this year’s Eagles Landing High School soccer team and was named to the All Henry County Team in 2005, 2006 and 2007.  He scored 50 goals during the course of his high school career.  Phillip Jordan started in goal all four years that he attended Ware County High School in Waycross.  He made honorable mention All Region in his 9th grade year, 2nd Team All Region his 10th grade year, and 1st Team All Region both his Junior year and Senior years.

“Brewton-Parker is truly blessed to have so much talent coming to the men’s soccer program,” said Glass, “this group of recruits will fit in well with the sterling group of players we have returning from last year’s side.”

The 2007-2008 Barons men’s soccer team will be on display in Mount Vernon at 5 pm on August 15 when they host an exhibition match with North Georgia College and State University an NCAA Division II opponent.  Their regular season home opener will be on September 2 at 2 pm when they take on perennial NAIA powerhouse Berry College in an important Southern States Athletic Conference match-up.
