2010 Season Outlook
With a new coach and a new set of players the Brewton-Parker College Men’s Soccer team has their expectations set high for the 2010 season. Most would think that a team coming off a 3-12-2 season would need a bit of rebuilding over the years to improve their previous season record. Coach Dye, who enters his first season with the team, thinks otherwise. “After working with the team this past spring I could see that we have the talent and the desire to change things around this year. If we can keep our composure during those close games there is no reason we cannot turn those losses into wins this fall”, said Coach Dye.
Key players returning this fall are seniors Oswaldo Sarvaria, Gerard Harewood, Anthony Rivera, and Donald Abuda. Also joining them are juniors Fabian Moreira, Jeffery Hoyos, and Henry Guigou. “These players have played with each other over the last couple of years. With their talent, physical presence, and desire to succeed, these players will prove vital to the overall success of the Barons this fall”, said Coach Dye. “If they can improve their vocal leadership and combine it with their technical ability the 2010 season could be very successful for them and the rest of the team.”
Joining the Barons this fall are several new faces. Former high school teammates Tyrell Collins, Mason Omesol, and David Orozco will join the Barons after a successful high school career together. “These players have not only played high school together but also club ball. It will be exciting to see their chemistry flourish over the next four years”, said Coach Dye. Collins, Omesol, and Orozco will join current teammates Pedro Ruiz and Anthony Rivera, all of which were former high school teammates at Wolfson High School in Jacksonville, FL.
Key players joining the Barons on offense is Adam Beattie and Blake Seale. A former ODP and US Development Academy player, Seale will provide the experience and technical ability needed for the Baron’s attack. Beattie, an international player from Scotland, will provide the Barons with a hard working, never give-up attitude. “It will be exciting to see the movement of the ball among Beattie, Seale, and Moriera this fall. The key question will be whether these two can adjust to the pace of the college game, and whether Moriera can provide the mentorship and leadership to these two in providing a successful attack”, said Coach Dye. Richie Moore, a freshman out of Kathleen, GA and Whatt Williams, out of Dade City, FL, will join Beattie, Seale, and Omesol as newcomers in the Baron midfield.
The defensive third will see both local and international talent as well. Eoin Seymour, a 6’2” defender from Scotland, will provide the Barons with much needed height and the ability to win balls in the air. Out of Jesup, GA, Joseph Hochstetler will compete with Orozco and Collins at the defensive back position.
Returning in goal for the Barons is sophomore Chris Coker. Coker returns as the conference leader in saves, but he will have competition for playing time this year as the Barons see two new keepers join the team. Dylan Poppell and Daniel Clavijo will compete with Coker for arguably the most important position on the field. Originally from Colombia, Clavijo has all the qualities a coach looks for in a goalkeeper. “Clavijo’s athletic and technical ability should make him a top contender between the pipes this fall”, said Coach Dye. “It will be exciting to see these three compete for the starting spot. The key question will be who wants the starting position more, as well as who can command the back line the best.”
The Barons open up fall play with their first match of the season at home against Freed-Hardman University on August 21st at 5pm. This home match will be the first of 7 home games played this fall.
