Women’s soccer team wins preseason game
The Brewton-Parker College women’s soccer team started the 2007 season Aug. 21 with a 1-0 preseason shutout of Georgia Military College of Milledgeville.
It was a close match with the only goal being scored when GMC’s keeper deflected an initial shot from freshman Leigha Beckum of Vidalia. Courtney Gurley of Marietta put the deflection away.
BPC out shot GMC 17-1 and had the advantage in corner kicks, 3-0. Freshman Mallory Lashley of Guntersville, Ala. played the entire match in goal recording one save.
Both the men's and women's teams will play Aug. 24 in regular season games against Freed-Hardeman in Henderson, Tenn. The women will kick off at 6 p.m. and the men will start their match at 8 p.m. On Aug. 25 the teams will travel to Florence, Ala. where the men will play Martin Methodist College at 3:30 p.m. and the women will play the University of North Alabama at 6 p.m. The teams will then return home in order to get ready for the start of classes in Mount Vernon on Monday, Aug. 27.
