Spiritual Goals for 2009
Team Verse: Matthew 5:48 "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
Our mission this next year as a team is to be striving to attain perfection. We being born of a woman and imputed Adam's sin through the fall at the garden of Eden are condemmed to be sinners. For it states in Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Because of this I am charging my team to do something out of the ordinary and be committed to strive for perfection. As a coach I want my players to play a perfect game without any mistakes, but that will never happen. What will happen though is a desire to play perfectly. The same needs to happen for us spiritually off the field. We as a team will be working on attaining this same desire to do things in all areas with a desire for perfection. For it is when we pay attention to the small details in life we are able to handle the bigger messes that may come along. Are we going to be perfect in every way absolutly not, but we can persevere and strive for it in every area of life.
We must also look at the word Holy, which means to be set apart. In 1 Peter 1:13-16 it talks about our mind set and how it should be the same as Christ Jesus. We as Christians are called to live at a higher standard, and I as a coach feel obligated to obey that call and teach my players to not only obey Christ's commands for them but to strive for it each and everyday diligently as one searching for a lost treasure. To be perfect is to be set apart. Our goals for this next year as a team is to be striving daily to obey God's commands and to set ourselves apart from those around us both on and off the soccer field.
