Bill Glass has been appointed Head Soccer Coach at Brewton-Parker College. Glass came to Brewton-Parker College to coach the women’s soccer team in August 2003. Now he will be responsible for the men’s soccer program as well.
In 2003 Glass relied on his experience coaching in the Georgia Youth Soccer Association to help him guide the Lady Barons through a tough situation.
Coming in just two weeks before the season started with only nine players on the roster Glass shepherded the Lady Barons to a 2-17-1 season. “We recruited a former player to come back and had a couple walk-ons from the student body, everyone worked hard and we kept a positive attitude throughout the season,” said Glass. “I was very proud of our players.”
Since then the women’s team posted a 9-8-1 record in 2004 and an 11-6-1 record in 2005 when they qualified for the SSAC Tournament for the first time in seven years.
Before coming to Brewton-Parker, Glass completed the YMCA Advanced Soccer Coaching Course, a strenuous three-week training program modeled on the UEFA-B course. He also holds a D-level coaching license and has attended numerous coaching clinics and courses.
Glass started coaching at United Quest, one of the Georgia’s premier soccer clubs. He then went on to the Cobb County YMCA to coach select soccer and work with handicapped children in the TOPS soccer program. His Under-17 club team, the East Cobb Rangers, tied for first place in the state for their GYSA division in 2002 after claiming first place outright in 2001.
“I loved the Rangers,” said Glass, “but my fondest soccer accomplishment before heading off to Brewton-Parker was winning the East Cobb YMCA U-10 league championship with the Comets, a team we had coached since they were 6 years old.”
The Comets, who were managed by Glass’s wife, Bettina, and trained by their son Alex, won the ECYMCA U-10 championship match in 2003 by a score of 1-0 in the boys’ last game as U-10’s. The Comets were then recruited en masse to play for the YMCA in the GYSA U-11 Soccer Academy program.
Glass has his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. Before joining the staff at BPC he was a Vice President at The Gallup Organization working in marketing, market research and organizational development.
Bettina, who has a Master of Law degree from the University of Muenster in Germany, is a Special Education Teacher at Vidalia High School. She is also the team manager for a travel soccer team, the U-14 Statesboro Strikers. Bettina and Glass have been married 23 years and have three sons Alex, Robin and Gordon.
Alex, age 21, is Director Of Coaching for the ECYMCA Soccer Academy and is in his junior year at Georgia Tech.
Robin, 17, is a senior at Bulloch Academy in Statesboro where he played on the GISA AA Georgia state championship boys’ soccer team in 2004. Robin was named to the GISA AA All Star soccer team in 2005. He also runs track for BA and travels with the Hinesville Gators soccer team. Robin played on the EC Rangers between 2001 and 2003.
Gordon, 12, is a former Comet MVP. He attends J.R. Trippe Middle School in Vidalia and plays club soccer with the U-14 Statesboro Strikers.
“Our whole family is excited about the opportunity I am being given to coach both the men and the women at BPC,” said Glass.
