According to the U.S. Department of Labor, corporate scandals and recent financial crises - and the now stricter regulations will lead to the demand for accounting services.  The estimated growth in the accounting field is 16% between 2010 and 2020 or 190,700 new jobs.  Accounting is always listed within the top 10 jobs, regardless of the state of the economy. USA News states the median salary for an accountant is $62,850; depending on education, experience, and specific interests due to the various specializations available.  Additional jobs and salary type information may be found at The accounting program at Brewton-Parker will not only provide the educational piece to the field, but also there are several opportunities through internships and projects with local corporations to provide the experience needed upon applying for accounting related jobs.

I have been affiliated with Brewton-Parker College for over 6 years; my first position with the College was as the Internal Auditor in the Fiscal Affairs Office.   This position allowed me to work with offices outside of business and learn many aspects of the college. I then obtained a position as the Accounting Manager with a State of Georgia Technical College just prior to moving into the position of Senior Accountant at Brewton-Parker.  This job allowed me to focus on budgeting and producing financial information to both internal and external parties.  Being the Senior Accountant I served on several committees, such as Executive Staff and several feasibility study committees. During this time, I also taught accounting courses as an adjunct while also completing a Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences with a specialization in Accounting. This degree has enhanced my educational background of a Bachelor of Business Administration with a specialization in Finance and a M.B.A.

It is my personal belief that attending a small private Christian College enhances the student experience due to the smaller class size and opportunity for closer networking relationships. In addition, the student should have the opportunity to achieve the necessary experience during a college career that will enhance the educational aspects of the degree.

The mission of Brewton-Parker College, a Georgia Baptist college, is to develop the whole student through the application
of Biblically-centered truth to a liberal arts curriculum in a community of shared Christian values.
