How
to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA)
The FAFSA is the foundational document for receiving financial
aid at Brewton-Parker College. To receive maximum funding
your applications and your FAFSA results must be received
in the Financial Aid office no later than April 1st, but
applications for federal aid may be made at anytime. We
recommend applying early each academic year. The Academic
year includes fall, spring, and summer semesters. For Brewton-Parker
College to receive your FAFSA, our school code must be printed
in Step VI. Our school code is 001557.
There
are several tips that can make completing the FAFSA easier
than you may expect. There are two ways to complete the
FAFSA.
The
first and fastest way to submit a FAFSA is to complete a
FAFSA on the Web. If you wish to complete the FAFSA in this
way here are some hints:
1) Plan
Ahead
You have three options for signing the FAFSA when
you complete it on the web. You can:
- Use
your PIN Number to electronically sign your FAFSA. This
is the fastest and easiest way to sign the FAFSA on the
Web. Click here for steps to request a PIN
number.
- Print
a paper signature page from FAFSA on the Web, sign it
and mail it to the address provided
- Transmit
your online FAFSA without signing. If you choose this
option, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) in
the mail requesting signatures. Sign and return your SAR
to continue processing. This option will slow down the
processing of your Financial Aid considerably.
Gather
the following documents for both the student and the parent
to be used in completing the FAFSA:
- Federal
income tax returns (For the 2007-08 school year, use 2006
tax returns)
- W-2
forms
- Records
of untaxed benefits received
- Current
bank statements
- Records
of other savings and investments, such as stocks, bonds,
and mutual funds
- Your
PIN numbers
2) Open
your browser to www.fafsa.ed.gov
or click on this link:
3) Select
Entering a FAFSA. Then, follow the on screen instructions
to fill out the application.
4) Review
your answers and if necessary, correct them before transmitting
your application.
5) Sign
your completed FAFSA.
Signatures from both you and one of your parents (if you’re
a dependent) must be provided before your FAFSA can be processed.
You have three options for signing. You can:
- Use
your PIN Number to electronically sign your FAFSA.
- Print
a paper signature page from FAFSA on the Web, sign it
and mail it to the address provided
- Transmit
your online FAFSA without signing. If you choose this
option, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) in
the mail requesting signatures. Sign and return your SAR
to continue processing. This option will slow down the
processing of your Financial Aid considerably.
6) Submit
your application.
When you have completed your FAFSA, click on the “Submit
my application now” button at the bottom of the screen
to transmit your application over the Internet. You’ll
be taken to a screen that says, “Your application
has been submitted.” Write down your confirmation
number and your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
7) Watch
for the SAR to be sent to you.
You should receive your SAR in the mail about two weeks
after transmitting your FAFSA over the Internet. The schools
listed on your online FAFSA will get electronic copies of
your SAR so that they can figure out how much federal financial
aid you can receive.
