Words of Welcome from the President of GPA
Dear Fellow Philologists:
On Friday, 3 April, and Saturday, 4 April 2009, Brewton-Parker College will host the fourth annual convention of the Georgia Philological Association (GPA). In the three years since our founding on 14 October 2005, our organization has grown in numbers and reputation. We eagerly seek your active involvement. Kindly see our current call for papers at this site.
The host institution in Mount Vernon sponsors sessions for the presentation of scholarly papers and panel discussions to address matters affecting all disciplines in the humanities. Participation in this convention is open to all GPA members. We cordially invite college students (undergraduate and graduate), professors, retired educators, and independent scholars to join. A listing of membership levels and corresponding dues appears elsewhere on this Web site.
We hope that GPA will continue to flourish as a strong, worthy academic and cultural entity. Our refereed journal has garnered widespread notice (see Journal Submissions for details).
Please consider the benefits of affiliating with a professional society whose meetings will always be just a short drive away. We shall endeavor to keep dues at reasonable levels to encourage GPA’s growth. In addition, we welcome sustaining memberships from institutions (English and Modern Language departments, colleges, and universities) to assist us in our unceasing efforts to make GPA better.
We welcome your interest—and ideally, your attendance—at our fourth annual convention, 3-4 April 2009, at Brewton-Parker College. For more information, please feel free to contact me at hbayne@bpc.edu.
Harry M. Bayne
