We are communicating closely with Montgomery County Health Department and Toombs County Health Department monitoring the situation and watching for any changes in influenza patterns in Georgia.
We will continue to view resources and information from the Georgia Division of Public Health, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Health and Human Services, and the Department of Homeland Security. |

Please take these steps to prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses such as the swine flu.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough and sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol based hand cleaners are also effective.
- If you become ill with influenza-like symptoms, including fever, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, or vomiting or diarrhea, contact the BPC infirmary, particularly if you are worried about symptoms. The BPC infirmary staff will determine whether influenza testing or treatment is needed. If the BPC infirmary is closed, contact BPC Student Affairs Department and we will assist with obtaining an appointment at the Vidalia office.
- If you get sick with influenza, CDC recommends that you stay in your room and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way. Contact Dean of Students, Sherrie Helms, so arrangements can be made for your meals and your professors can be informed.
