Pierce Dickens is Associate Professor of Music at Brewton-Parker College, where he is in his 23rd year as a member of the faculty. He received the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education degree through the Tift College a Brewton-Parker College program, the Master of Music in Piano Performance degree from Georgia State University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts in Organ Performance degree from the University of Alabama.
At Brewton-Parker College, he teaches Piano, Organ, Music Theory, and courses in keyboard literature and keyboard pedagogy, accompanies the College Choral Society, and coordinates both the Dennis and Quinelle Sikes Fine Arts Series and the Crescendo Music Weekends sponsored by the Division of Music. Dr. Dickens is active as a church musician, accompanist, and clinician. He has taught at the National Conference on Worship and Music at Ridgecrest, Church Music Georgia, the Georgia Baptist Instrumental Festival, and the Georgia Baptist Youth II Music Camp. Dr. Dickens has appeared as organ soloist with The Augusta Symphony and has been the featured organ recitalist at the Georgia Music Teachers Association annual conference. Additionally, he has served as accompanist for numerous Georgia Baptist festivals and has appeared at the Georgia Baptist Church Music Conference, the annual meeting of Georgia Baptist Convention, the annual meeting of the Alaska Baptist Convention, and in solo and collaborative recitals in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. His performances have been broadcast on both Georgia Public Radio and Alabama Public Radio. He serves as organist for The First United Methodist Church of Statesboro, Georgia.
He has a collection of hymn arrangements for organ in print, Praise To The Lord, The Almighty, published by Lillenas. Additionally, he has completed a solo for organ, commissioned by the First Baptist Church of Statesboro, Georgia. He is a member of the American Guild of Organists, Georgia Music Teachers Association, and Music Teachers National Association. He is also a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, an honorary music fraternity, and was recently included in the list of 2000 Outstanding Musicians of the Twentieth Century as well as Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. He was honored as Brewton-Parker College’s Teacher of the Year in 2003.
