BPC Hymn Festival planned for March 19
A festival of hymns that follows the theme of
"Sing to the Lord!" is planned at Brewton-Parker College in Mount
Vernon on Sunday, March 19.
The fourth annual Hymn Festival in Saliba Chapel begins at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.
The Hymn Festival will feature a combined choir that includes the Brewton-Parker College Concert Choir, Choral Society and Baron Ringers, as well as soloists from the community and representatives from area church choirs.
Dr. Pierce Dickens, associate professor of music and the Quinelle McRae Sikes professor of Piano at Brewton-Parker, will accompany the choir on the Sally Groves Memorial organ.
"The entire service will consist of the
congregation singing favorite beloved hymns and the reading of God's Word,"
said Dr. Mark Bowdidge, an assistant professor of music and choir director
at Brewton-Parker. "This year's festival features a themed service
of worship through song, drawing from the diverse repertoire of worship songs
used in churches."
The list of hymns includes: "Fill the Earth with
Music"; "When In Our Music God is Glorified", "Blessed
Assurance", "Holy, Holy, Holy", "Precious Lord, Take
My Hand", "Saved, Saved", "I Sing The Mighty Power
of God", "This is My Father's World", "Be Thou
My Vision", "Lord, Thy Church on Earth is Seeking", "Thou
Dids't Leave Thy Throne", "The Blood that will Never Lose
Its Power", "Grace Greater than our Sin", "Look Ye
Saints, the Sight is Glorious", "Make Room within my Heart, O God" and "Wonderful
Words of Life."
Inquiries concerning the Hymn Festival may be directed to Shannon Summerlin, Music Division secretary, at 583-3136.
