The Brewton-Parker College Community Wind
Ensemble performed its annual Spring Concert last Thursday night in Gilder
Recital Hall on Brewton-Parker’s
main campus.
According to Dr. Armenio Suzano, Director of Bands at Brewton-Parker, a unique
partnership was begun last fall which allows community members the opportunity
to perform in the wind ensemble along with BPC students. The result has been
a wonderful blend of seasoned performers and highly enthusiastic young artists.

The musical selections performed were the
most difficult to date, and Dr. Suzano praised the ensemble’s performance. “The Brewton-Parker Community Wind Ensemble performed the most challenging
set of songs ever attempted in our school,” said Dr. Suzano. “Though
we opened the concert with lighter compositions (Semper Fidelis, El Relicario,
and Weber’s Concertino for Clarinet), the latter half of the concert
comprised three of the most demanding pieces ever written for Wind Ensemble
- Chester, Lincolnshire Posy and Shostakovich’s amazing Festive Overture.
It is always a thrill to be able to realize ambitious dreams and last (Thursday)
night’s concert was just that: the realization of a rather ambitious
dream for this fledgling ensemble. This has been another important step towards
the building of a strong, community-minded Instrumental Music Program at Brewton-Parker
College.”
