A member of the Brewton-Parker College faculty has been elected to the Executive
Council of a nationally recognized music conference.
Dr. Glenn Eernisse, associate professor
of Music and chair of BPC’s
Music Division, will serve a two-year term as Vice-President, Educational Division,
of the Southern Baptist Church Music Conference (SBCMC), which serves and is
served by ministers of music within Baptist churches, denominational workers,
and educators from all over the world.
“When one of our faculty or staff members is entrusted with national
responsibility through such organizations as the Baptist Church Music Conference,
it always brings prominence and opportunity to Brewton-Parker College,” said
Dr. David Smith, president of Brewton-Parker. “I am grateful that BPC
can boast of a great faculty with people such as Dr. Glenn Eernisse anchoring
its leadership.”
According to Dr. Eernisse, the SBCMC is
comprised of three groups – professional
church musicians, college and university music educators, and denominational
musicians.
On the conference’s website, three main purposes are listed that serve
to bolster the conference’s day-to-day operations – “to strengthen
membership and musical renewal, to affirm continually the unique role of members
as minister musicians, and to provide a positive and ever growing influence
on the ministry of church musicians.”
As Vice-President, Educational Division,
Dr. Eernisse’s main responsibility
will be to maintain communication with fellow music educators. The conference
holds annual meetings in various cities all over the country and Dr. Eernisse
is in charge of planning the educational portion of the program at the next
meeting in Orlando June 3-5, 2007. As a member of the Executive Council, Dr.
Eernisse will also assist in the overall planning of the entire Orlando meeting.
In addition to his recently appointed administrative duties, Dr. Eernisse
is also a member of the Publication, Program, and Commissioned Music Committees
within the conference.
Currently serving as President of the Georgia Baptist Church Music Conference,
Dr. Eernisse has been a member of the SBCMC for the past twenty-five years
and is grateful for the trust of his peers in electing him to such a prominent
office.
“I consider it a great honor to be elected by my peers to serve as Vice-President,
Educational Division in the Southern Baptist Church Music Conference,” said
Dr. Eernisse. “Each group (within the conference) learns from and is
enriched by the others. I look forward to serving my term in the company of
a wonderful group of officers from around the country.”
Paul Clark, Music Specialist for the Music
and Worship Ministries of the Tennessee Baptist State Convention, will serve
as the 2007 President of the SBCMC. Mr.
Clark has served with Dr. Eernisse in non-conference related activities and
is glad to welcome him to the SBCMC’s Executive Council.
“Glenn Eernisse is an excellent selection to serve on the Executive
Council of the Baptist Church Music Conference,” said Clark. “Glenn
is a wonderful mix of consummate musician, passionate educator, and church
statesman. He is knowledgeable and accomplished in so many areas, yet exemplifies
the servant spirit. I have had the wonderful privilege of serving with Dr.
Eernisse at Georgia's state youth music camp and have observed his patience
with middle school and high school students. I am honored to serve with him
on this council this next year as we look to consider church music for a future
generation.”
