“The Jubal Chorus will bring to our campus Georgia Baptists’greatest
collection of musicians,” said Dr. Charles Strickland, executive assistant
to the President for Church Relations at Brewton-Parker College. “It
is an honor for us to host them and the concert will be a blessing to the entire
community.”
The Sons of Jubal, inspired by Genesis 4:21, is an all male chorus made up
primarily of ministers of music within the Georgia Baptist Convention (GBC).
The group was founded in 1954, making it the oldest of its kind within the
Southern Baptist Convention.
As a part of the state missions program
of the GBC’s department of Music
and Worship Ministries, the Sons of Jubal continues to minister to congregations
not only in Georgia Baptist Churches, but all over the United States and in
other countries around the world.
Concerts by the Sons of Jubal feature a wide variety of musical selections
and include performances by the Jubal Brass and Jubal Handbells.
The Jubalheirs is an all female chorus comprised of leaders in music ministry
throughout Georgia. Founded in 1973 by Laverne Melton, Music Associate in the
Church Music Department of the GBC, the Jubalheirs have presented concerts
throughout Georgia and have been participants in mission projects throughout
the United States and abroad.
Both the Sons of Jubal and the Jubalheirs are under the direction of Dr. Jon
Duncan, Specialist for the department of Music and Worship Ministries within
the GBC.
The concert is free and open to the public. An opportunity will be given during
the concert to contribute to the various missions projects of the Sons of Jubal
and Jubalheirs.
Plans are currently being made for a meal to be served in the Bartow and Jean
Snooks Student Activities Center prior to the concert at 6:30 p.m. Advance tickets
for the meal are $12 per person. The price at the door is $15. The menu includes a buffet of pork loin, Cherry chicken, squash casserole, green beans, sweet potato souffle, salad, rolls and peach cobbler. Tea, water and coffee will also be served.
