Taking ‘baby’ home from first day of school

Mules walking down Highway 280 in Mount Vernon

Two mules were spotted on Brewton-Parker College’s Mount Vernon campus Monday, Aug. 28 around 9:30 a.m., just in time for the college’s first day of classes. A baby mule and its 1,000-lb. mama mule were seen near Tyre Chapel on Jones Lake, and were eventually captured around 11:20 a.m. near Plant Operations. The mules, owned by Bud Brantley of Farm Bureau in Mount Vernon, were led off-campus and made their way home via Highway 280. Mount Vernon police officers stopped traffic in front of the college, in the east bound lane, as the mules were escorted home. (Photo by Kelley Arnold)
