BPC professors consult MCES teachers about BPC Nature Trail
MOUNT VERNON—Montgomery County Elementary School teachers and faculty from the division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Brewton-Parker College discussed the benefits of creating a nature trail at the college Sept. 6. The 1.6 mile trail loop begins at the old chapel on Jones Lake and has a possible entry point across the street from the elementary school. The teachers, shown at right (from left) are kindergarten teacher Kim Reynolds, first grade teacher Lou O’Neill and third grade teacher Jackie Smith (wife of Dr. David Smith, president of Brewton-Parker College). They were invited by professors Dr. Christopher Jones (chemistry), Dr. Ann Calhoun (physics) and Dr. Jon Shuman (biology). The educators discussed the best place to locate the trail entry for the elementary school kids’ field trips and walked the length of the trail, with the BPC professors as guides.
