MOUNT VERNON—Staff members of the American Red Cross spent their Thursday afternoon (Sept. 14) at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon collecting blood donations from many students, faculty and staff. The “bloodmobile” was stationed in the parking lot behind Gates Hall. Students such as Jonathan Lewis, Joy Reed and Quoartney Wright were some of the few who eagerly volunteered to give blood despite the temporary pain they may have experienced.
George Dempster, director of the Savannah team of nurses and assistants, explained that Georgia’s Red Cross has regional offices in Atlanta, Valdosta, Macon and Athens. The need to keep a large amount of banked blood is a nationwide effort, and Brewton-Parker’s local blood drive is appreciated by the association.
