MOUNT VERNON—This past Saturday, members of the Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) at Brewton-Parker College took time to lend a helping hand to a local citizen who needed yard work done around his home. By pulling weeds and putting down pine straw around young trees, BCM students made it their mission, as part of their local outreach, to make the Vidalia yard a beautiful place again. After an early start Saturday, students Joanie Morgan, Bethany New and Jamie Metter pulled weeds and Omie Scott, Erin Bower and Jessica Groover put down pieces of newspaper around young trees to block future weeds. Students also laid straw around the trees, and moved large, fallen tree limbs and branches into a burn pile. Other participating students were Stephen Sweezey, Michael Crozby, Steven Dresen, Michael Baskin and Joey Tomazin. The campus minister at Brewton-Parker, Glenn Wallace, was also on hand offering his support. Overall, students agreed they enjoyed serving and helping others, and were proud to accomplish something that might seem quite small to most but is much bigger to the recipient.
