MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College’s Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences celebrated Dr. Harry Vogel’s recent successful defense of his Ph.D. dissertation with a reception Oct. 18 in the Fountain-New Library’s Morgan Art Gallery.
Dr. Vogel joined the college over the summer as an assistant professor of sociology. His dissertation, “The Effect of Rural Amenities on Non-Metropolitan Change from 1980-2000”, suggests that “climatic amenities, river and ocean-based amenities and warm weather recreational amenities were the most powerful determinates of non-metropolitan population change from 1980-2000.”
The afternoon reception was attended by many members of the college’s administration, faculty and staff, including Dr. David R. Smith (shown above from left), president of Brewton-Parker College; Dr. Lee Cheek, chair of the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences; (Dr. Vogel); and, Dr. Ron Melton, provost.
