MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College senior, Jessica Broughton, along with the cooperation of college student organizations Rotaract and Latin American Students Organization (LASO), brought some “culture” to BPC last week.
CultureFEST 2007, an intercultural awareness event, was held on the college’s main campus April 9-12. Activities such as salsa dancing, sponsored by LASO, and game night were held in the Phillips Student Center in the evenings. The daytime events included a different ethnic menu each day in the Residential Restaurant, sponsored by ARAMARK, and a bazaar of information about representative cultures and countries made by student volunteers, including several of the college’s international students.

Broughton, a human services major, hopes this event will become a BPC tradition each spring.
“CultureFEST went really well,” said Broughton. “The (student) turn out at the presentations and night events were good. I noticed that people were reading the posters with an interest. That was all I wanted to achieve in this project.”
BPC’s Rotaract Club is sponsored by the Vidalia Rotary Club. LASO and Rotaract are open to student membership. Contact BPC staff members Morgan Cook and Kelley Arnold for more information.
