Dr. Cindy L. Skaruppa |
MOUNT VERNON—The newest member of Brewton-Parker College’s administration is no stranger to college life.
Dr. Cindy L. Skaruppa, the college’s new Vice President for Enrollment Services, comes to Brewton-Parker from an equivalent position at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. Her first full day at BPC was Tuesday, May 1, though she has been an “as needed” consultant to the president since January. Already, she has jumped in with both feet firmly planted in the roots of BPC’s Christian foundation with clear plans for the college’s future.
“I accept with humility and enthusiasm the opportunity to serve as Vice President for Enrollment Services at BPC,” she said. “I am entirely motivated by the desire to do meaningful and worthwhile work. I think of Margaret Mead’s words: ‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.’ My hope is that I can contribute to the mission and fiscal health of the college. I am excited about the chapters yet to be written and the moments yet to be lived on this campus.”
A former Senior Consultant with Noel-Levitz to 10 different campuses on enrollment management, Dr. Skaruppa has also served as the Provost of The American College of Switzerland in Leysin, Switzerland, and Dean of the College of Professional, Adult and Continuing Education at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. She says one of the biggest challenges of her new position will be to increase the college’s overall enrollment.
“Increased enrollment will come from the recruitment of new students and the retention of current students. Initially, my greatest challenge will be to understand what works and what doesn’t so that I, in collaboration with many campus constituents can be the catalysts for conceptualizing a new direction,” Dr. Skaruppa said.
Dr. David R. Smith, BPC president, is “delighted” to have an administrator of Dr. Skaruppa’s caliber join the college.
“Dr. Cindy Skaruppa brings years of successful experience, a passion for doing enrollment management correctly, and a desire to see students, faculty and staff, and institutions reach the apex of their potential,” said Dr. Smith. “Seldom do small colleges have the opportunity to build on the kind of professionalism and commitment that Dr. Skaruppa brings to our campus. She has focused her recent career on the development of Christian colleges. I am understating when I tell you of my delight in her arrival here.”
Dr. Skaruppa has taught college courses in Education to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students and has served as an elementary school principal at two schools in Ohio. She began her career as a math teacher, girls’ softball and volleyball coach and teacher of the educably mentally handicapped. She holds a doctor of education in educational leadership from the University of Miami; and from Ohio State University, she earned a master of arts in educational administration and a bachelor of science in education, with a major in exceptional children and educably mentally handicapped.
