New BPC women’s soccer recruits join team for fall practice

MOUNT VERNON—The Brewton-Parker College women’s soccer team welcomed seven new recruits to campus August 5 to begin preparations for the 2007 season.
Leigha Beckum, from Toombs County High School in Lyons, was a standout player for the Lady Bulldogs. She comes to BPC with a strong endorsement from her former coach Jeremy Moore.
Randi Brown, from Screven County High School in Sylvania, was varsity co-captain her senior year and broke the school records for most goals scored in one game and most goals scored in a career.
Desiree Caton, from Palm Bay, Fla., was varsity team captain of the 2006-2007 West Shore Junior/Senior High School women’s soccer team. The team won district championships the last three years and went to the regional semifinal this year.
Courtney Gurley, from Sprayberry High School in Marietta, played three years of varsity soccer and won the MVP award her sophomore year.
Mallory Lashley, from Guntersville, Ala., was the starting goalkeeper for the Guntersville High School varsity team for four years and was team captain her junior and senior years.
Jerneil Nivet, from Maloney Gardens, Trinidad, was selected to play for her country’s U-20 National Team when she was just 15 years old.
Hailey Seats, from Hiram High School, returns to BPC after an extended absence. While at Hiram High School, Seats was a record-setting scorer and was also a strong player for BPC from 2004-2006.
The Barons began a two-game preseason schedule Tuesday, August 14 against Georgia Military College in Mount Vernon. The team opens the regular season on the road August 24 against Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn. The regular season home opener for the Barons will be September 1 at 4 p.m. against Flagler College.
