Discovery Club collects food for hungry neighbors

MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College’s Discovery Club, a mathematics and natural sciences focused organization, collected several hundred pounds of food for the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon food bank during the last few weeks. Dr. Jon Shuman, left, club advisor and assistant professor of biology, thanks “everyone for making this year’s food drive a success” on the Mount Vernon campus. “During this time of year,” he continues, “we all receive solicitations from many worthy causes, usually more than we can afford to assist. So, we are very grateful for the very generous gifts of food that you have shared with those in need this season.” Shown at right is Discovery Club member Nathan Greene, who helped collect the food and deliver them with Shuman to the food bank.
