MOUNT VERNON—The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has selected Dr. Glenn Eernisse, chair of Brewton-Parker College’s Division of Music, for the 2007-2008 ASCAPLUS Award in the Concert Music Division. Dr. Eernisse has been awarded this honor since 2000, the division chair said.
These awards reflect ASCAP’s “continuing commitment to assist and encourage ASCAP composers. According to the recent award letter, the award is “granted by an independent panel and is based upon the unique prestige value of each writer’s catalog of original compositions, as well as recent performances in areas not surveyed by the Society.”
“I am deeply honored to receive this award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers,” said Dr. Eernisse. “It is wonderful to be recognized by an organization that promotes creativity across the country. I am also grateful to Brewton-Parker College for the support and encouragement provided for the faculty to involve ourselves in artistic work of many kinds.”
Dr. Eernisse is a member of the college’s Community Wind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble and directs BPC’s newest musical ensemble, Trejeito. In January, Dr. Eernisse was invited to participate in a “Planning Summit” for the construction of the next edition of The Baptist Hymnal produced by LifeWay Worship Music Group. His commissioned works include pieces for BPC’s Centennial Celebration, BPC presidential inauguration, the Georgia Baptist Church Music Conference, First Baptist Church of Vidalia, Ga., and First Baptist Church of McDonough, Ga.
Dr. Eernisse has written articles for The Church Musician, The Hymn and Creator, and has composed and arranged pieces for a variety of vocal and instrumental groups, including children’s choirs, youth choirs, adult choirs, senior adult choirs, handbells and a variety of brass and woodwind groups.
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in south Georgia.
