Dr. Ben Caston |
MOUNT VERNON—Dr. Ben Caston, assistant professor of music at Brewton-Parker College, will perform in recital Thursday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in Gilder Recital Hall on the Mount Vernon campus, announced BPC’s Division of Music Monday.
Dr. Caston will be accompanied by Dr. Pierce Dickens on piano. Dr. Dickens is the college’s Quinelle McRae Sikes Professor of Piano.
The program will feature a variety of selections, including songs by Hahn, Brahms, Schubert and Schumann. Dr. Caston, a lyric tenor, will also sing arias by Gonoud, Handel and Mozart. A few spiritual arrangements by Moses Hogan will contrast with 21st century songs by American composer Stephen Dankner.
Dr. Caston recently presented a paper about Dankner’s selected works at the third annual New Voice Educator’s Symposium held at the University of Indiana. He is also a member of the Georgia Baptist Convention’s Sons of Jubal, which will travel to Russia in the spring on a performance tour.
The faculty recital is free and the community is welcomed and encouraged to attend.
