WALESKA, GA – It was a play dreams are made of: Steal the basketball in the closing seconds and drive for the tying score while getting fouled and making the go ahead free throw.
Junior George Fudge’s three point play with 16 seconds remaining in regulation helped propel the Brewton-Parker College men’s basketball team into overtime with Reinhardt College. The Barons ultimately defeated the Eagles, 72-63.
“That was an incredible ending in regulation,” said head coach Steve Barker. “George made a great play on the ball and made a clutch free throw for us. Then they tied it up with a clutch free throw of their own to send it to overtime. To outscore them 12 to three in the overtime period was amazing.”
Fudge led the Barons (8-17, 4-9 SSAC) with 19 points and eight rebounds. Senior Warren Beaulah had a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds).
The Barons begin a three game homestand Feb. 8 against Berry College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. The team will then host Southern Wesleyan Feb. 10 as part of BPC’s homecoming festivities. Tip-off is at 4 p.m. The homestand will conclude Feb. 15 (Senior Night) with a visit from Shorter College. Tip-off for the Shorter game is scheduled for 8 p.m. All home games are played in the Gillis Gymnasium inside the Bartow and Jean Snooks Student Activities Center.
