MOUNT VERNON— Brewton-Parker College hosted Spring Orientation for 10 incoming students Jan. 9 on the Mount Vernon campus. Juanita Kissell, director of counseling services and orientation organizer, said the number of new Mount Vernon campus students attending the spring semester’s orientation has shown a solid increase from last year (4).
As part of this year’s orientation programs, Kissell implemented a campus-wide scavenger hunt. Some of the “clues” the students were required to find – and take a picture of – included the following: making fish faces to the fish in the Morgan-Moses Science Center; simulating a class in session, complete with professor and students in the Holliman-Fountain Education Building; and students forming a music note in front of the Miller Music sign.
This activity gave the new students a chance to get to know the buildings and features on campus while interacting with current students who served as orientation leaders, known as the “OTeam”.
The first day of class for both the Mount Vernon and external campuses was Jan. 11.
