MOUNT VERNON – Steve Barker, athletic director and head men’s basketball coach at Brewton-Parker College, has announced the signing of high school seniors Gavin Chapman and Chris Jordan to play for the Barons next season.
Chapman, a 6-foot-1 shooting guard from Oconee County High School, averaged 15.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game along with 4.4 assists and 2.1 steals. An All-Region player in Region 8-AAA, Chapman scored a season high 31 points against Franklin County High School this past season. He was voted the team’s offensive player of the year this past season and scored 1,253 points during his high school career.
“Gavin is going to be a great shooter for us,” said Barker. “I expect him to step in right away and be a team player. He knows the Christian mission of Brewton-Parker College and will serve as a great Christian example on and off the court.”

Chris Jordan |
Jordan, a 6-foot-5 post player from Paxon School for Advanced Studies in Jacksonville, Fla., averaged 22.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game his senior season. A 70 percent free-throw shooter, Jordan holds the single game scoring record at Paxon, scoring 41 points in a game against Andrew Jackson High School. He was an All-Gateway Conference player his junior and senior seasons and was named the Most Valuable Player in the Lions Club Basketball Tournament his senior season.
“Chris is a very good low-block player with a knack of scoring around the basket,” said Barker. “He plays big and physical and won’t have a problem making the transition from high school to college level play. He’s also a very good student in the classroom.”
The Barons’ 2008 basketball season tips off October, 2008. For more information about BPC Basketball, contact Barker at (912) 583-3178.
