VIDALIA – Members of Brewton-Parker College’s Annual Fund Committee gathered at the Meadows Wellness Center March 15 to kickoff its 2007 campaign.  With a goal in place of $200,000, the committee is excited about meeting and exceeding the goal – a trend that has become the norm in recent years.

Dr. Nancy Stanley, chairperson of the 2007 campaign, is aware of the impact BPC has had not only on its students, but the surrounding community.  She is looking forward to leading a successful campaign.

“I am praying for a bounty of financial blessings for an institution that has blessed and will continue to bless our community with so many wonderful folks," said Stanley.  “I know that together we can meet our goal of $200,000, a venture that will further improve the quality of education at BPC and the community as a whole.”

Monies raised for the Annual Fund each year give Brewton-Parker the opportunity to improve the academic experience for its students.  In recent years, the fund has allowed for the purchase of 5,000 additional volumes for the Fountain-New Library, contributed to an update of campus technology, and purchased a mobile astronomy lab that will be used at the college’s six external sites around the state.

BPC has also provided 12 new scholarships for students with contributions to the campaign.

Claire Johnson, director of the Annual Fund and grants at the college, is looking forward to great things from this year’s campaign.

“With Dr. Stanley’s leadership and the committee’s enthusiasm, I feel confident we can reach our goal of $200,000,” she said.

Each year, leaders in Toombs and Montgomery counties, as well as BPC faculty and staff, serve on the Annual Fund Committee.  Members of the community include Brian Bishop, Suzi Braddy, Steve Brown, Debra Campbell, Gary Campbell, Steve Dingler, Patricia Dixon, Wendell Dixon and Brian Frost.  Also Howard Holman, Phyllis Johnson, Milly Kennedy, Martin Moses, Geraldine McKenzie, Hugh Peterson III, Tim Ritchie, Cheryl Roan, Colon Sammons, Marsha Temples and Alan Thigpen.

BPC faculty and staff serving on this year’s committee include: Rosalie Selph, post office coordinator; Bill Glass, head soccer coach; Dr. Christopher Jones, associate professor of chemistry; David Kight, assistant professor of business management and computer information systems; Karen Mock, accounts receivable coordinator; Josh Hartley, assistant to the dean of students; Paula Whitaker, financial aid office manager; Cathy Stephens, external programs office manager; Deborah Conner, library reference assistant; Stephanie Fort, assistant professor of music; Dr. Sid Johnson, professor of political science; James P. Bell, assistant professor of Spanish; and Beth Griffin, plant operations secretary.

The campaign concludes May 10.  For more information on how to make a contribution to the 2007 Annual Fund at Brewton-Parker College, contact a committee member or the Office of College Advancement, (912) 583-3255.
