Man of La Mancha’s ‘Pedro’ at BPC

MOUNT VERNON—The following profile is seventh in a series of releases by Brewton-Parker College’s theater department, which will perform Man of La Mancha, a musical comedy, April 19-21 at Southeastern Technical College’s Toombs Auditorium. Performances will start at 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets are $8 general admission and free with a valid BPC ID card.

Name: Caleb Smallwood
Year in college: Freshman
Major: Biology
Hometown: LaGrange, Ga.
Plans for future/career: “To become a physical therapist and move to a nice suburban town to settle down with my beautiful wife.”
Dream job: Physical therapist or high school/college basketball coach
Organizations/Activities: BCM, JV Basketball
Favorite leisure activities: Working out, playing pick-up basketball, hanging out with friends, napping, watching TV
Previous Theater experience: Guys and Dolls, Snow White Goes West, Aladdin
Smallwood portrays “Pedro”, the head muleteer in the musical. Smallwood describes his character as a self-centered, gruff man who constantly seeks to “hire” Aldonza for her services.
Smallwood believes the biggest challenge to playing this role is staying in character, while his favorite aspect is “having the opportunity to show a different side of myself.”
