MOUNT VERNON—The Brewton-Parker College women’s basketball team played against Concordia College Nov. 14. It was a tough fight for the Barons from the start; however, they could not overcome the Hornet’s early lead. The Barons lost to the Hornets, 71-57.

The game was delayed for approximately two hours due to the Hornets’ late arrival to campus, said Head Coach Sug Parker, which he says may have contributed to the Barons’ loss.
“The ladies lost focus on the task that was at hand because of the two hour layover,” said Parker. “I think that this was a humbling experience. The ladies realize that they should always be ready no matter what.”
Leading scorer for the Barons was Kaela Gibson with 20 points. Gibson, a 5’6” guard, is a junior from Deland, Fla. Senior Filita Kirkendoll followed with 10 points. Juniors Monica Hunter and Tanisha Murray both had nine points with Hunter grabbing four rebounds and Murray two rebounds. Junior Shelby Pauling finished with four points and two rebounds. Senior Shawnique Johnson had three points and junior Trenece Boyd scored two points.
