MOUNT VERNON—The Brewton-Parker College (BPC) Student Government Association (SGA) announces the election of several key student body officers.
Rachel Underwood was elected by the student body as the secretary for the 2007-2008 academic year. Laura Bellisle was elected as the Public Relations Officer for the 2007-2008 academic year. SGA currently has 23 members serving the student body. It has formed five committees with the 23 members. The committees are as follows: services (headed by Hope Williamson), facilities (headed by Carey Wilson), food services (headed by Omie Scott), student relations (headed by Michael Crosby and Bellisle), and organizations (headed by Underwood).

During the fall semester, SGA hosted its first SGA training weekend in mid-September. SGA members met on a Saturday afternoon to prepare SGA senators, most of whom have never served on SGA, for the year of service to come. The SGA executive cabinet held four sessions throughout the day.
Also this fall, SGA hosted a campus blood drive. On Sept. 15, the American Red Cross spent the day on BPC’s Mount Vernon campus. Over 28 units of blood were donated from BPC students and staff.
Another milestone event for this year’s SGA was the first “student chat” with SGA. This event allowed students to meet before a panel of SGA members to express their questions and concerns about the campus. President Cody Henderson and all SGA members are taking the information that was gathered into consideration. SGA will be hosting another forum during November. All BPC students are encouraged to attend. During this forum, students will be given the opportunity to converse with either SGA members and/or possibly administration. Details for this event are to be announced.
Some other activities taking place on campus this year include bi-weekly student surveys. Members of the SGA student relations committee have been conducting surveys to better serve the student body and to allow individuals to “voice” ways to improve BPC. SGA will soon meet with all organization advisors and presidents to increase student life on campus. President Henderson is also increasing communication between SGA and the college’s administration, faculty and staff.
“As the semester comes to a close, the SGA hopes that everyone has a pleasant end of the semester. You are in our prayers! Remember to keep your chin up, and that with God all things are possible!” adds Bellisle.
