Outgoing BPC trustees honored for service

MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College’s Board of Trustees honored three of its own during the Oct. 18 board meeting on the Mount Vernon campus.
Outgoing trustees Osal Evans of Sylvania, Vira Garnto of Valdosta and Ronald Frost of Vidalia were recognized for their many years of service to the college as trustees and friends. Dr. David R. Smith presented each trustee with a plaque commemorating their service.

Also during the meeting, the board approved its officers for 2008. Those serving in the following positions beginning in January will be: Gary Campbell of Vidalia, chairman; Ken Dowling of McRae, vice-chairman; Nadine Lang of Lithia Springs, secretary; and, Dr. Nancy Stanley of Vidalia, assistant secretary.
In other business, the board approved several resolutions that included a commendation to the Division of Education for preparing a response to the national accreditation agency, NCATE, which recently provisionally approved the division’s educational offerings. The board also approved a new strategic planning process to begin among college leaders and administration this month. The process is designed to create a plan to move the college forward during the next five years.
The board also approved a resolution to hold the dedication of the new Hildegard Stanley Music Center during the Alumni Weekend 2008 activities, to be held on the Mount Vernon campus April 4-6, 2008.
The board also approved the creation of a subcommittee to prepare a resolution of appreciation to the Georgia Baptist Convention. The resolution will be presented to the board for approval during the January 2008 board meeting.
