MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College’s Division of Arts & Letters and the staff of the college’s literary magazine, Oracle, hosted a poetry and literature open microphone night in the Cyber Café on the Mount Vernon campus Sept. 20.
Among the speakers were many BPC students, including José Santos, Omie Scott, Paul Lanning and Paul Taylor. Some faculty members also showed their flare for creative writing such as English professor George Mosley, who read an original work about the emotional chaos of the Sept. 11 tragedy, and Prof. Bill Denni who read a beautifully written Spanish poem by poet Pablo Neruda. If you’re interested in great creative writing, this group meets once a month and everyone is welcome to participate.
Dr. Thom Brucie, professor of English and creative writing, stated, “We’re trying to create a community of writers. These gatherings give all an opportunity to socialize and share work.” So get those creative juices flowing and share your work at open microphone night at the Cyber Café in the Phillips Student Center. For more information, contact Dr. Brucie at 912-583-3104.
